What Is Smoke Hollow Pellet Grill?
Smoke Hollow pellet grill is a device that uses pellets as a source of smoke which you can use for additional flavoring and smoking to the meat. If you have seen the movie Chef, you probably know what this is all about. It’s an awesome device because not only can it provide good smoke flavor to the meat, it’s also means that you don’t have to fiddle with wood chips. This kind of grill is somewhat new in the market and is still gaining popularity.
The Pros of a Smoke Hollow Pellet Grill
A pellet grill is a long time investment. It’s not something you’re going to buy, put it in your garage for a few months and then decide you don’t want any more. A smoker that uses pellets will provide good smoked food for years if well taken care of. You know that with most smokers there are things you can do to help maintain them or fix some problems when they do arise.
But the question is, how easy is it to use and maintain? Which brand of pellet smoker has features that make it easy to be used and maintained by the average Joe? No matter what type of smoker you really get, there are always some advantages or pros that come with it. Let’s go over the pros of using the Smoke Hollow pellet grill.
– Easy To Use
One of the best things about this smoker is that it has an easy to use digital control panel which you can program up to 24 hours in advance. This means that even if you want a late night snack, it’s possible with this device because all you need to do is set the time and temperature before you go to bed and the food will be ready when you wake up! You don’t have to remember or write down your favorite recipe times- just push a button and enjoy being able to consistently have perfectly smoked food without having to babysit your smoker throughout cooking.
– No Maintenance Required
You don’t have to work on this smoker. Other smokers require you to constantly be doing maintenance like cleaning out ashes, changing the pellets and more. This unit eliminates the hassle because it uses an automatic pellet feeder system that will provide you with hours of time before you’ll need to refill the hopper again!
All you need to do is keep up with refilling the water pan when needed and occasionally check for any sign of trouble. If something goes wrong, there are Smoke Hollow customer service numbers listed everywhere online or in your manual that can be called for help.
– Easy To Clean
The best thing about this smoker is how easy it is to clean. The exterior of the product only needs a light wiping down. The grease trays will need to be pulled out and cleaned with a cloth after every few uses up to once a week. Just remember that there’s no need for harsh chemicals or scrubbing unless you’re trying to remove some stubborn build-up.
The cooking grates can be removed and placed in a dishwasher, but it is recommended that they are washed off by hand with warm water and mild soap before placing them back on the smoker for storage. Most people who smoke food do not want meat juices permanently staining their grill. Being able to remove the grilling grate from this machine makes it easier to prevent damage from occurring while cleaning your equipment.
– Good For Beginners And Experts
This product is great for individuals of all skill sets. If you’re just someone who wants to smoke something every now and again, this smoker will do the trick easily with little supervision. You can set it and leave it be without worrying about it burning your food or requiring constant attention. This means if you need to run out, your food won’t burn!
If you are an experienced smoker who knows their way around an offset firebox or charcoal fueled grill, this machine will still prove a valuable investment because it uses a heating element similar to what more advanced smokers use. It has a heat deflector which helps prevent scorching of the meat as well as a built-in temperature indicator that shows when the desired temp is reached inside after going through the warming process.
– Cost Effective
Of course, there are many other reasons why you should consider getting this smoker for your home or to use during parties and other events, but the pros mentioned above are not only some of the most well-liked features by current owners, they’re also some of the most well-respected by millions across online groups dedicated to smoking enthusiasts. The Cons of a Smoke Hollow Pellet Grill
– The temperature is difficult to control and does not hold steady like I expected it would. It is either too cold or too hot, making it difficult if you want to smoke something low and slow (which is what most people want).
– It is small inside. After the first year of use, we already had to replace the grates as they began rusting very quickly and needed to be replaced before continuing with our cooking plans.
– There are only two front wheels and one back wheel, so transportation has been a challenge at times when we try to keep this thing outside on our patio during non usage periods – we have considered buying a dolly for this reason alone! If you don’t have bricks or pavers then you’ll need to buy something that can help you move it around on grass or dirt.
– There is no ash tray so the ashes just pile up at the bottom of the smoker, which is very difficult to clean out when needed. The more often you use this thing, the more often you will have to clean out the glass and grates (which are not dishwasher safe).
– It has a hard time getting hot enough for slow cooking meats like pork shoulder – after four hours it still did not reach 200 degrees Fahrenheit inside of meat! But if you put ribs in there at 185 degree temperature then they get over smoked pretty quickly, but end up tasting like charcoal. Also – beware of putting really fatty cuts into this machine, if the meat is above its recommended grease level then grease will drip into the bottom of this grill and end up making your food taste like it has been marinated in fat.
– The water bowl design was poorly planned out because it turned into a huge mess every time we used it, spilling over onto our deck. Eventually, I ended up taping the water bowl to the side so at least there wouldn’t have any more spills inside or outside of this thing!
– Concerning to what you are cooking – if you want ribs that fall off the bone easily, slow cooked for hours on end, then these are NOT THE RIBS FOR YOU! If you leave these things in there for hours longer than they should have been then the meat just falls apart – but that’s not what you want for ribs!
– The metal grates are poorly designed and do not mesh well with the water bowl underneath them, which causes hot spots in some areas of the smoker (so even if your grill is at 275 degrees Fahrenheit it could feel like 298 or 300 depending on where you placed your food). Try to make sure that you rotate your food every hour so that one area does not get over cooked. This will cause an uneven distribution of heat which can cause hot spots inside this thing – something that I wish was explained more clearly before purchasing this pellet grill.
– Our first smoke hollow lasted roughly 1 year before burning out, wasn’t too bad considering we had already replaced the grates, and we heard that this model was made better than previous models by their company. It is not really made well enough to last past a couple of years, but it’s cheap (in price) so you get what you pay for I guess.
– Lastly, when smoking meats make sure you keep an eye on how much smoke is coming out of this grill because if you let the smoke build up in here without venting then that will give your food a bitter aftertaste – something that people would not want when trying to cook ribs and other low and slow cooked meats where flavor really matters! Watching the smoke levels inside may take some getting used to but in the end if still taste good.

Smoke Hollow Pellet Grill Troubleshooting
This article is a collection of common troubleshooting problems experienced with Smoke Hollow pellet grills. The following list may not cover every problem, but the solutions provided should solve most issues for most owners. Because these are pellet smokers and burn wood pellets, there is a long list of potential causes for any one particular symptom, including: defective parts, bad users practices, bad assembly procedures or wiring problems in the device itself. If you cannot quickly identify your problem from this list then you should probably contact customer service at the manufacturer to help you to get your smoker up and running again.
Smoker Runs but Burns Wood Pellets Very Slowly or not at all
Cause: Your smoker is not getting enough oxygen.
Solution: Make sure the airflow adjustment knob (on some models) is fully open and check to make sure you have a fresh bag of pellets in your hopper and that they are good quality hardwood pellets made specifically for use in pellet smokers and grills. Never use softwood or wood scraps as these can clog up the auger. If you find the auger is clear, look further into this article as there could be a problem with either your igniter, motor or blower fan assembly. The motor fan sometimes fails by burning out because it runs too much or draws too many amps; this pulls too much power from the system and causes the blower fan to run slow or eventually fail. You can check this by removing your blower assembly and hooking it up directly to a 12 volt car battery, if it spins fast then the motor is fine. If your igniter is glowing red but still will not light, look at this article for more information on troubleshooting your igniter.
Smoker Runs But Will Not Generate Any Heat
Cause #1: Blower Fan Motor Failure
Solution #1: See above “Blower Fan Runs But The Igniter Does Not Glow”
Cause #2: Blower fan belt slipped off pulley
Solution#2: Remove the front cover of smoker (usually 6 screws) then remove the blower fan cover (on most models). Check your belt and make sure it is tight and won’t come off. If you find that the belt is loose or has slipped off the pulley, follow these steps to replace or tighten it: To tighten, remove the lower screws from motor plate using a flat-head screwdriver. Pull back on housing enough to access rear of fan shaft. While holding one hand over fan blade to keep it from spinning, use other hand slip belt back onto drive shaft then retighten motor plate screws. If the belt came off entirely this may take some time and patience but in most cases is possible with just two people.
Cause #3: Blower Fan Motor is Locked Up
Solution #3: Most blower fans use a standard universal mount which can be easily removed and replaced with a new one. You can usually find them for about $10-20 online, but it may also be easier to contact your dealer or manufacturer for parts.
Smoker Runs But Will Not Hold Temperature
Cause #1: Low Quality Fuel
Solution #1: Only use high quality hardwood pellets made specifically for pellet smokers & grills. Cheap softwood pellets are full of dust, soot and creosote which clog up the auger and burn dirty leaving hanguns of sticky black residue on your grill’s heating element. If you cannot afford good pellets then use straight hardwood lump charcoal instead as this burns cleanly without producing any by-products.
Cause #2: Inlet air temperature too cold
Solution #2: If your smoker will not reach and maintain a low enough internal temperature to cook on the lower settings then you need to add some insulation or decrease the inlet air from outside. You can do this by closing down the 2″ flue collar between the smoker and grill section, wrapping your smoke stack with Reflectix, putting a gasket on the door or using some old towels/blankets inside while cooking.
Cause #3: Blower fan running at 100%
Solution #3: Make sure that the auger is full of pellets before starting smoking because if it isn’t then it could cause an overload condition which forces blower fan to run continuously until fire dies out or unit overheats.

Smoke Gets In Your Eyes
Cause#1: Gasket Out Of Place Or Dirty
Solution #1: Make sure that the door gasket is clean and properly seated around the smoke stack as well as main access door opening which seals up tightly when closed. This may take a few attempts to get right so make sure to dry fit all parts before applying any silicon sealant. Also take a look at the door’s hinge assembly and make sure that it swings freely in all directions.

How Smoke Hollow Pellet Grill Works
The Smoke Hollow Pellet Grill works on a simple yet effective heating element called a “Pellet Tube”. It is basically an electric heater which absorbs pellets from the hopper and as it heats up, begins to smolder those same pellets. This creates heat which in turn sears the meats surface resulting in flavor development, while at the same time sealing in juices. The end result is cooked food with a beautiful smokey color and rich smoky flavor!
To begin the cooking process, simply make up a “Chimney” full of pellets and light them. Then dump them into your hopper, turn on the control switch and within minutes you are ready to start cooking. Once you have selected your desired temperature, food can be placed directly onto the grill grates for easy clean up or use our included metal Grill Grates. For larger cuts that require higher temperatures, simply add more pellets to build up heat in your hopper – it’s that simple! And when making hamburgers patties or sausage links, never have an issue with flare-ups ever again! Just place meat directly on smoker grates and enjoy fast, flavorful results every time!
